Steps away from the beach. Beautiful view on the ocean. The staff is incredibly friendly and has been able to make the place feel like home for the entire week... read more we spent there. They clean the place every day. They rent surf boards and wet suits and can also hook you up with a surf instructor and yoga lessons at a studio nearby. If you're going to stay in Baleal, you don't need a car (although you can rent one nearby). 10 min walk to the supermarket, 2 minute walk to the nearest beach and surf spot ("Gigi"), and plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from, from cheap fast food to nice seafood restaurant. Highly recommend.

Experiência fantástica: Great spot! Comfy beds, clean and spacious area, very friendly hosts, easy to park and easy to wash wetsuits and dry them. The best past is that it’s 10 steps from a surf check. And the girls know where’s good to surf. Thanks guys!

Experiência fantástica: A second home in Portugal - thanks to the perfect hosts (that became true friends) Elena, Antonia, and Francesca. This place has the perfect balance between a hotel to a hostel, and I think it’s ideal for couples who want to get to know other people. My wife and I spent a week here, and we really enjoyed the chill atmosphere. The girls showed us around, and took care of use when we needed some assistance… The hotel is literally on the sea, and in a walking distance from the best coffee shop and restaurants around. Thank you!

Experiência fantástica: I liked the place a lot. The location is great, right next to Baleal's picturesque rocks with great views on the ocean, and very close to main Baleal's places to go like the Washed Up bar, the supermarket and the coffeshop. The main beaches are at a walking distance. At the same time the lodge is not on the main street, so it's quite at night. I took private surf lessons there, and I loved them a lot. The teacher Guilhermo is a talented surfer and an experienced teacher, and a great guy in general. The staff, basically Elena - the manager and the soul of the place, is very nice and hospitable and always ready to help. Elena provided all the info about the town that I needed and was always open to talks or questions. Great people are what keeps the place and the town together. I'll definitely come here again when I'm back in Baleal. Thanks!

Experiência fantástica: My friend and I were desperately looking for a new accommodation as our first booking was a total disappointment. With a lack of sleep and already some back plans to leave the whole area we found this lovely spot. The manager Nilson and volunteer Elena welcomed us with an open heart and a big comforting smile. Within a few hours they arranged a room for us where we could stay for the rest of our time. The place is super nice, clean, with a nice small backyard, a bright living room and a nice kitchen where you can put some stuff in the cupboard and fridge. The room was great, good bed with a small balcony. The whole crew of Surfness treated us like friends, we laughed, shared stories and spend some nice time together with a surfer skating class (try it out!!) or at the beach for some surfing. Nilson was super helpful, he answered so many questions about things to do around, gave us super useful recommendations and - once again - is an incredible nice person with his heart at the right place. On our last day we even could use the room until after lunch time so that we could shower just before heading on to the airport. Special thanks to Andre, who spend two amazing surf lessons in the morning with me. He is not just a surfer - he is a friend on mother’s earth appreciating nature with every sense of his body and invites you just to do the same. All in all, we would describe our stay as following: We came crying, and we left smiling. Obrigada!

Experiência negativa: If I based my review only the the guesthouse and the location I would give 5 stars. Unfortunately the manager is very unprofessional, unfair and even agressive at times. He seemed completely overwhelmed with the workload and relies heavily on the volunteers to support him. He loses track of what's going on in the house (double bookings, damaged or stolen equipment,...). He blamed me for a damage on a surfboard which was already there when I first used it and told me I had to pay for the repair. So if you use any of their equipment take photos before using it so you have proof afterwards. On my departure day we had a disagreement on how many days I had rented a surf board. There is no paperwork done when you rent anything, so I took my own notes and was sure of the number of days. But he charged me more which of course I wasn't willing to pay. In the end he grabbed my suitcases and THREW THEM out in the street while yelling at me to leave! So if the manager is replaced with someone qulified and hospitable I would love to come back to this beautiful place. As it is now I DO NOT RECOMMEND staying here!

In regards to the issue of the damage on the equipment, we apologize for the misunderstanding and lack of communication on our part. We take full responsibility for the miscommunication and are taking steps to ensure our staff is better equipped to handle these situations in the future. However, that was a situation when the manager was trying to figure out - not only with you - what might have happened with the board. As soon as he recognized that the approach to the situation was not in the correct way, he apologized to you right away for that, and he took the responsibility to pay by himself for the damage, which is a demonstration on how we are always committed to correct our flaws when they happen. (Talking about the details of that situation would be useless here at this point) We value your feedback and would like to offer our sincerest apologies for the negative experience you had. However, regarding the situation at your departure, although it wasn't the appropriated protocol of checking-out the extra expenses generated during your stay, things might have been misinterpreted and put out of context in your review, which is quite dangerous to us - to not say unfair and not true - with a huge potential to influence negatively the choice of our future guests. Especially when your words are extremely the opposite from the tens of exceptional comments we have received on booking.com about the whole experience with our staff in general, and with our manager specifically. We understand that sometimes our personal motivations, based on our private experience with someone, can lead us to express our frustrations in public because we might confuse what is fact and what is a personal projection. Imagine a coworker of you giving an inaccurate feedback to your superiors about your job because you haven't met his/her romantic expectations over you. What could be addressed privately now will bring you the need to sort things out publicly, which is quite embarrassing to everyone because you might not want to expose the whole truth about the other person's behavior over you. We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and we work hard to ensure that all of our guests feel welcome and comfortable during their stay with us. We regret that we were not able to meet your expectations in this regard. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. We would be happy to work with you to resolve any outstanding issues.
