Experiência fantástica: Sardinhas offers a one of a kind all around surf training with fitness, skating and a lot of surfing. Even after just a week filipe helped me understand the ocean better and feel more comfortable in the water. The surf feedback is clear and the video reviews are helpful. Both Filipe and Lidia are very hospitable and go above and beyond for their students. I hope to return for one month!

Experiência fantástica: I had a wonderful time with Sardinha Surf Coaching. I participated in the 1-month program in March 2025. The waves were challenging but it was great to get to know the ocean and feel very comfortable in less challenging conditions. Lidia did cool and useful workouts with me and Filipe the coach gave me good and useful feedback. He filmed every surf session and looked at what needed to be improved afterwards, which was absolutely great. He looked everyday where the best waves were for us. He did skate sessions with us, which were very helpful. We did theory sessions and a lot of theory about surfboards. I also slept in the accommodation they suggested. Which was a great location and I felt very comfortable for a month. Both Lidia and Filipe do their job really well and I am very happy I did this program and made new friends. Experiência fantástica: I came to Sardinha in July having done a couple of 1-week beginner surf camps. I'd never managed to catch a wave by myself or go out back without a coach. My goals for the month were to do both - and with Filipe and Lídia's expert guidance, I did it! I had also just recovered from an injury and was a little bit nervous about how I'd manage, but I didn't need to be. Filipe made sure to focus some of the training on getting my confidence in my body's abilities back and Lídia happily adapted the workouts for me where needed so I could start to regain the strength I'd lost. The sessions are challenging - Filipe puts you on a smaller board and encourages you to work independently in the water, which means you improve much faster - but always a lot of fun. I'm excited to carry on putting what I learnt into practice and hope to return to Sardinha for another month one day!

Experiência fantástica: Filipe and Lidia were amazing! I whole heartedly recommend this program to anyone who is interested in learning how to surf. In addition to both Filipe and Lidia, I am fortunate to have met other surfers who were in my June group on this surf/life journey! I’ve surfed before, but never in a place like Portugal. Having the guidance of both Filipe and Lídia was really helpful for me to get over my initial fears and helped to refine my abilities in the water. Filipe is patient but still motivated me to gain confidence outside my comfort zone. Over the course of the month I learned to gain more independence while surfing (including paddling into my own green waves). Lidia really helped me to focus on strength training out of the water, which in turn helped with my paddle strength and endurance for longer surf sessions. I will always carry the lessons with me from my month at Sardinha Surf school.

Experiência fantástica: I had the privilege of having a full month off work to participate in the 1 month intensive surf program with Sardinha. I can say without hesitation it was the best thing I could have done with that time. Prior to Sardinha, I surfed very infrequently for one year. I didn’t feel confident in going to surf on my own and I didn’t feel like I could get the most of 1-week surf camps I previously signed up for because I didn’t have the proper foundation to build on. Filipe provides that foundation. There truly is no better feeling than being positioned in the lineup correctly, having the confidence to paddle onto waves (and do it easily), and standing up on the board better than ever. I went from an 8ft hard top to surfing a 6’10 and finally feeling confident to buy my own board. Lidia provides fun, productive, and challenging workouts that became one of the highlights of my month. She is organized and will push you to be better which is something I really appreciated. I am not sure if I will get another opportunity to have a free month again, but if I ever do I would choose this program again. I loved Ericeira, the other students doing the program, and working with Filipe and Lidia. It is an experience I’ll never forget.

Experiência fantástica: Lidia and Filipe are awesome! They helped me take my surfing to the next level. Having Filipe film you surf and give you feed back halfway through your training allows you to speed up your progression. All of the small technical improvements you can make to excel your surfing Filipe will point out and explain how to accomplish. Having the film and the feedback from Filipe really pushes you past the trial and error stage of being an intermediate. If you would’ve told me a month ago I would be surfing the way I am now I wouldn’t believe you, I’m super confident heading back to my home break. I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to step up their surfing!

Experiência fantástica: I don't have enough words of how much I appreciate the coaching with Sardinha. They coach with heart and passion and truly care about the people they coach - and truly invest so much energy in us as students as well. I think one of my favorite things with being coached by Sardinha (Filipe and Lidia <3 ) is that he makes us students believe in ourselves. He knows exactly how far to push our limits and what is exactly enough challenge for the day. That makes me more comfortable in the water knowing that. We will always pick the right surf spot for what is needed to be worked on. I also like that we've been working a lot with psychology and mind, at the same time as technique, wave reading etc. I've been coached both through intense training programs but also separate lessons every now and then when I come to Portugal. I know I've progressed a lot with the help och Filipe and Lidia. I feel much more confident and independent in the water also when i freesurf, a lot thanks to Sardinha and the work we've done together through the coaching sessions. Experiência fantástica: Words cannot express how amazing and transformative a month with Sardinha Surf Coaching was for me. Surfing has been a lifelong dream for me, and Sardinha made that dream come true. I went from not being able to get up on a massive soft top (and not being able to simply lie down on a hard top), to paddling out to a far lineup and getting up on a short board. IN A MONTH! They also inspired me to be healthier (my pants are now too big for me ) in a sustainable and sensible way. Before I came to Sardinha, I was afraid of 1-2-ft waves - Filipe and Lidia trained my body and mind to be more confident, disciplined, focused, and accepting of new challenges. Every lesson had breakthrough knowledge because of how attentive and detail-oriented they are - they not only helped me to learn new things, but also unlearn things that were keeping me from progressing. They are TOUGH (especially Filipe, who is a straightshooter ), and I felt like I was going to pass out from exhaustion after every session, but they produce results that I’ve never seen before (and I’ve had surf instruction in Hawaii, California, New York, Costa Rica, Morocco, Spain, Mexico — I’ve basically journeyed the world to find these two ). And they are not only brilliant and talented surfers, but they are extremely careful, kind, and hilarious (they are like surf parents). I look forward to doing their program again and again!

Experiência fantástica: I've been working with Sardinha Surf School from the very beginning when Filipe and Lídia opened their school. First transforming from a 7'6 soft top to a 5'11 and now my personal shaped 6'0 shortboard. We started with an overall understanding of the ocean and it's different surf spots in Ericeira to make me able to surf all by myself which I've never felt comfortable doing before. Through time I was able to catch more and more waves and being able to control the board in order to do turns and having the fun of my life being out there. Due to Filipe's immense knowledge about the ocean, surfing and the local culture in Ericeira I've gained the ability to know how to behave in the water and got a good understanding about different situations. This always helps me a lot to feel in control in the water and I got rarely scared. But what I value the most is Filipe's skill to read you as an overall person and being able to push you over the limits without pushing too far. He's trying to understand your personality and uses not only the physical but also the psychological aspect of coaching to make you better. I always felt his believe in me which kept me going through all the struggles. Lídia is my favorite surf buddy in the water. Her knowledge, support and fun company always makes it even more enjoyable being in the water. Cheering each other on and being happy for each others success makes it a different experience not feeling alone in an individual sport. I can't thank Filipe and Lídia enough to join me on that great journey to learn probably one of the hardest sports there is.

Experiência fantástica: We had an intense, sharp and effective training. We discovered our edge and went beyond some limits. Chloé : "I could feel my fear of big waves, control my emotions and my board and at least catch my biggest wave ever. And this was an objective!" Getting out of the waiting room, feeling deep the body and the mind. We felt safe and supported at any time. This was possible because Lidia and Filipe have the knowledge and sensitivity required. They know want they do at any time. Malik: "Filipe's teaching is sharper than a Japanese Knife. All jokes aside, this was a great push to the next step (wave lecture, position on the board, manoeuvres)." We left Ericeira with Confidence, Strength and keys for further improvements. We warmly recommend the training with these 2 souls!

Experiência fantástica: I had the most amazing (1-month) experience with Lídia and Filipe! Not only they helped me identify and break down the aspects that were keeping me from progressing in surfing, they gave me the tools and confidence to push my boundaries and apply those into more challenging conditions. Overall, I achieved all my goals and some! Learned immensely! Had a lot of fun, and made two friends along the way! Highly HIGHLY recommend!! (And hope to do it again!)

Experiência negativa: The surf coaching itself could be good but there was little in the way of information prior to the course starting. They seem keen to get you to pay the deposit then go quiet. I had to get in touch a few times to check everything was ok and ask when to make the second payment. On arrival it is as apparent the conditions were beyond our skills. Lidia later said they only normally take on advanced athletes in mid September due to challenging conditions….so why book us on….a middle aged couple needing a new hip?! We were never asked if we had any medical conditions or limitations. As we shouldn’t have been booked at this time of year I asked for a refund for the second half of the week that never went ahead. Despite never providing any terms and conditions Lidia said no refund. As she makes you pay with the friends and family option on PayPal there is no come back and she’s gone silent again. Beware….very keen to get your money. A lot of money for a less than 2 hours per day training.

He makes sure you understand what you‘re doing while out in the ocean and his analyses were great and very helpful to improve my skills. Lidias Fitness Trainings were also great. She comes up with a fundamental plan that helps you to improve your overall fitness and also specific for surfing. She explains the exercises very well and she can also give you some helpful tips how to keep training at home and what you should focus on to reach your goals. Experiência fantástica: Probably the best surf lesson, you’ll ever have in you life! I had visited one surf camp before and participated 2 surf lessons with another surf coach. At first I was a bit confused because the coaching is different to what I was used to. But in those three days I gained so much confidence in the water and learned what surfing is actually about. Quite sad that the three days went by so fast but I will definitely come back! This class is a mix of challenge, support, encouragement of your independence and lots of sense of accomplishment.

Experiência fantástica: Sardinha’s intensive week was a game changer. Not only do you learn how to improve your surfing, you also learn how to trust your equipment/choose the right equipment. You learn so much about your mental game in the line up and how to be mentally prepared. You will learn about surf fitness and how to improve your surfing out of the water. You will learn how to properly use a surf skate to aid your surfing. The theory lessons were super informative, they even took us to a store and showed us all different types of equipment, which further makes you understand why things are the way they are. It was an amazing week with Lidia & Filipe, they are amazing people who challenge your surfing, fitness & skating in the best way possible!

Experiência fantástica: While training Filipe told us that if we ever find a good secret surf spot to remain quite about it to not attract any crowds. I would like to apply this theory to Sardinha Coach. I believe we have found two very special people that form a great team. However in this case I am going to be a kook and share this ‘secret spot’ because the crowd deserves to know about it. Our intensive week was absolutely amazing. Lidia and Filipe are great people. The knowledge they gave us over such a short period of time was amazing. Every session was recorded and we went over the videos later in video analysis. The fitness session was very insightful and reminded us just how important it is to be physically prepared for surfing. In addition Sardinha coach pay big attention to the mental strength that is necessary for any surfer who wants to improve. The theory covered regarding different types of boards, fins, etc. was covering a lot of information and it was delivered in the coolest way of actually taking us into a store an showing us the different equipment. The skating session was so much fun and really helped us visualise and feel for our surfing. Thank you Lidia and Filipe. It was a great and we are looking forwards to seeing you in September !

Experiência fantástica: Hands down the best surf coaching I’ve experienced. Was extremely impressed with Lidia and Felipe. Their coaching was very hands on, detailed, and supportive. They actively coach in and out of the water. The video analysis and follow up notes from each session made a lot of difference. After a week I’m already seeing progress. Great people, great coaching, all around fantastic experience. Would recommend them to beginners and experienced surfers alike!

Experiência fantástica: l highly recommend working with Filipe and Lídia to anyone who wants to seriously improve their surfing. l originally planned on doing 1 week of intense surf training but ended up with almost 3 because l knew l would not find another place where l would progress at the same speed as l did. Surf, fitness and surfskate, supported by video analysis of your surfing, which was quite humbling for me to watch but very valuable. The sessions were very diverse, some intense others more technical and some super fun and always with a specific focus. I started surfing last summer and now transitioned from softtop to hardboards. Filipe made sure that I surf with equipment best suited for me. What makes Lídia and Filipe stand out is their passion and enthusiasm for this sport, their knowledge and competent guidance. Very nice and fun to work with both of them. We even went shopping and they helped me pick out a great wetsuit. l have learned a lot and will come back for sure! Worth mentioning that everything is located around the charming town Ericiera, which is one of the eleven World Surfing Reserves with a stunning coastline and nice beaches. Before I joined the course, I felt like I’d hit a plateau and thought unable to make much progress, and was desperately looking for help.The one-week intensive course with Sardinha Surf Coaching was full of light bulb moments, which I believe has unlocked my surfing potential and increased my understanding of the fundamentals. During the week, Filipe pointed out what exactly was holding my surfing back, which was ‘equipment’ among others. Then he helped me choose the best equipment for my progression in surfing in the long run. I must say this was an exciting step in my surfing journey, and I’m already excited to think about what I could achieve in a couple of months/years. Plus, with almost no skating background, I had no idea what I could gain from skate lessons and was a bit nervous, but I instantly fell in love with surf skating. Not only does it feel amazing, but they’ve also helped me work on my stance and build up muscle memories. Overall, Brilliant! Personalised coaching, performance analysis, the psychology of surfing, video analysis, etc., from the passionate coach, definitely helped me establish a good foundation. Experiência fantástica: The absolute best experience and a very worthwhile investment. I can't say enough positive things about Filipe and Lidia, they were both amazing. I originally signed up for a week long program, after just two sessions I knew it would be in my best interest to not pass up the opportunity to work with Sardinha for a full month. I just started surfing earlier this year and was taught a poor pop up technique. Filipe was able to retrain my pop up technique as well as identify specific areas for improvement. His coaching is highly personalized and unique to each surfer. He helped not only with they physical aspect of surfing but also on my confidence and attitude during surfing. Lidia was also a joy to work with and it was inspiring to watch her surf.

Experiência fantástica: I just don't know where to start...everything about Sardinha Surf School is amazing! Filipe and Lídia are not only great trainers/ coaches, most of all they are really lovely people. It really feels I have made new friends along the way:) After 7 years of "surfing", I thought I would always use my right knee to take off. Also, the last couple of months I really did not feel confident and comfortable in the water. After some dramatic surf sessions, I really wanted to fix this. And so I found Sardinha Surf School. Filipe and Lídia helped me in only 1 (I am still amazed by that) session to not use my knee anymore. Their way of coaching is really easy going, they don't put any pressure on you and also help you not to put any pressure on yourself. But, they do challenge you to get rid of your old habits. For me this week was also very much about stepping out of my comfortzone, because I believe this is when you make the most progress. Filipe and Lídia are really aware of your boundaries and in a gentle way help you to step out of your own bubble. This has helped me gain back my confidence in the water and I am forever grateful for that:) The videos Filipe makes and the homework you get, have really made a difference for me as well. Never before did I see myself on my surfboard. By watching the videos before every session, I had much more focus and determination to change certain habits I had developed. If you are determined to improve your surfing, please go to Filipe and Lídia and do everything they tell you to do, trust me, it's so worth it!:) I cannot wait to come back in November.

Not only i was taught the basics but filipe focused on the skills that i need to improve. I could see real improvement over the course of 5 days! I liked that he would always take us to uncrowded places which helped me feel more comfortable in the water and most important i felt safe. Experiência fantástica: I had an incredible experience with Sardinha. Felipe and Lidia are wonderful, passionate about surfing, and fully devoted to their students. I was really impressed with the way Felipe was highly aware of exactly how much to push, and sensed when you reached your peak for the session, or when you had more left in the tank. It was the perfect amount to feel challenged and motivated to improve, but not so much as to be overwhelming. I feel that I progressed a lot (in fact, way more than I expected to) in various aspects of surfing with these classes: technique, focus, understanding of ocean patterns, feel for the various kinds of waves and conditions, and perhaps most importantly, I completely changed my mindset and approach to surfing. It was very rewarding overall, and a lot of fun too. Hands down one of the best learning experiences I've ever had, not just in surfing. Experiência fantástica: I had several classes with Felipe. He is very passionate, he knows a lot about surfing and where to get nice waves in the area and surroundings. I managed to get rid of the bad habits, improve the technique, got a better understanding of how things should be done (from catching the wave, positioning on the board to the execution of the bottom turn) and build the confidence in the conditions in which I’d be probably scared before. It was a lot of fun and they both, Felipe and Lidia, are good, funny and kind people. I miss them and cannot wait to see them again!!! If you really want to improve in surfing, forget about group classes and go for the private ones with this school.

Experiência fantástica: The 1 month surf coaching has been a great experience. Filipe is a devoted surf coach, that brings you to the most suitable surf spots depending on your surf level, but also motivates you to sometimes leave the comfort zone and overcome limmiting fears. In and out of the surf he explanes where to possition in the line up and points out what you need to improve/change to catch more waves. Pictures and filming helps you to see your progress but also see what to work on in the next surf sessions. Besides beeing very dedicated, he is also light hearted, spreads possitiv energy and absolutly cracks me up with some of his hillarious stories and comments. Thank you, Filipe, for all the efforts you took and also for making me even get into the skating sessions was an amazing surprise for me. Many thanks also to Lidia, for her good spirits and for making me enjoy the fitness sessions! (and even making me enjoy fitness sessions back home by myself! Who would have thought..?!) You will definitely get your money's worth with them: what I got was transportation to the best spot for my level , for the weather conditions of the day and with basically zero crowd. After the session we had video analysis with very useful tips on my mistakes and strong points coupled to suggestions on my future improvement path and which type of equipment I should choose in the future; all the explanations were very clear and well justified with examples from better surfers. What I like in Filipe's teaching is his holistic approach and his profound understanding of the sea and the surf spots. His passion for surfing and the sea is undeniable and contagious. During the lesson we worked on my turns and I was able to improve my technique drastically thanks to Filipe's feedback. I will definitely plan another lesson with Filipe when I return to Ericeira.
